Dr. Sepehr Zhand

Sepehr Zhand is a research fellow at the Space Syntax lab, UCL Bartlett School of Architecture. He is also a PhD candidate at the Space Syntax Laboratory, where he investigates how development policies intensify unplanned growth in the metropolitan area of Tehran, using a spatial network and applying space syntax methodology. His main interest is in explaining urban growth in relation to aggregate social behaviour through spatial data science methods.
Trained as an architect in Iran and the UK, he has previously been a research associate at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LSE) as well as University of Tehran and has taught at UCL and Cardiff University. He has also practiced as a planner and architect in informal settlements in the peripheries of Tehran, where he led and developed micro upgrading projects with local communities.
