Serena is a PhD Student in Electical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, where she aims to design robots (and AIs) to collaborate with people in messy human environments. Serena's work is focused in part on explainable AI, as she builds robots which can quickly and effectively communicate the workings of their decision-making logic to non-expert users. Serena also works on empowering non-technical users to teach robot new tricks.

Before starting at MIT, Serena spent two years working at Google as an Associate Product Manager on Augmented Reality and Search. She graduated from Harvard College in 2016 with an A.B. in Computer Science. Serena's work is supported by an NSF GRFP and an MIT Jacobs Presidential Fellowship.
